Busy Little Tattoo Artist!

i have been super busy! i love it! starting linework, having consultations, getting calls from magazines, and even beginning some shop renovations! it's all terribly exciting.

i've started this chestpiece on Fuji. this is by far one of the most fun and unique endeavors i've had brought to me. it's a chestpiece of a stuffed and mounted jackalope that "was once pretty but is kinda moth eaten now". it's complete w/ the nail hammered into his chest! the final piece will have blue fur and more moths and buggies flying around. we did the linework on wednesday and i cannot wait to start working on the color! note the moths, spider, and cockroach hanging out.

A couple entries ago, i mentioned being interviewed for Step Inside Design Magazine's November/December issue. well, Ms. Anderson of Cat Fancy saw that article and expressed interest in getting my opinion about how tattooing is changing and how popular cat tattoos are, etc. as soon as the issue with little miss me is out, i'll let you all know! i'm pretty excited since i'm a crazy cat lady about my dear kitty.

what is this about renovations, you ask? well... my friend, Brian Decker, who owns Pure Body Arts, is going to move his business into the downstairs room i have available at Twelve 28! he will be providing piercing, scarification, and other body modification services just as he has been out of Pure on Boerum Street. Brian and i worked together before when i worked for him at Pure a couple years ago and i am really excited to get to work w/ him again. he's been a buddy of mine for years and i miss doing crosswords and playing family feud with him.

anyway, since i have some renovating to do in preparation of Brian's move, the shop will probably be closed a few days sometime in the near future. if you already have an appointment, don't worry it will not be canceled. most of the work needs to be done downstairs, but i'll be doing a lot of it and i can't tattoo and tile at the same time... sorry!

in any event, i'll keep you all posted.

OH! if anyone is interested in taking over the lease at the current Pure location in Brooklyn, give me a call or drop me an email. i can put you in touch w/ Brian or his landlord.

FINALLY!

i'll be swinging back into the shop today for the first time since THURSDAY! i absolutely hate being away from work for too long, especially when i'm physically incapable due to being sick.

i'll be getting caught up on design work and taking consultations today.

sorry for the wait, kiddos! if you need me, give me a call.

DAMNIT!

it seems as though i am more sickly today than yesterday.
if you could hear me trying to talk, you wouldn't want me to tattoo you!
my voice keeps cutting out and i'm generally not feeling well.

SORRY! i'll be in asap!

Just When I Think Its Safe:

well, kiddies... i've been fighting the good fight w/ the sniffles all week, but they have won! the shop will be closed today so i can rest up and be ready to start a fabulous chestpiece tomorrow! pictures soon!

sorry!

SCHEDULE CHANGE!!!

i WILL NOT be going away this weekend!
if you would like an appointment for friday the 19th or saturday the 20th LET ME KNOW!! give me a call or drop me an email (the.milkmaid@gmail.com) to schedule some time.

sorry for the sudden change, but i just found out this morning.

Magazine Articles and Daffodils.

Step Inside Design Magazine's article by Ina Saltz about female tattoo artists will be out in the Nov/Dec issue. I was one of the female artist's interviewed!

Also, Ina Saltz is the author of Body Type. She's done a second volume in which some of my tattoos will be included. Inked Magazine has a six page article/preview of Saltz's book and wouldn't you know it? Some of my tattoos showed up there, as well!

Go check them both out!

Chris came in tonight to work on her Alice in Wonderland/floral piece. Last time she was in we got the linework done and tonight we worked on the daffodils. Enjoy!

Just a Reminder:

I will be out-of-town at a private modification event the 19th -21st of this month. i'll bring back pictures of what i work on, don't worry.

about half of my schedule is taken up between now and then. today and tomorrow look pretty quiet. as for the weekend, saturday is nearly filled w/ some time available noon-2. if you really need to get work done saturday, call me and i'll see what i can squeeze in! sunday i will be out-of-town at the Breast Cancer Walk in Westport, CT. next tuesday looks to be filled, but i could probably squeeze something in that day, too if need be.

as always, feel free to stop in for a consultation or to say "hi" any time during normal business hours (tues - sat noon-8pm).

Inaudible Voicemails.

dear everyone,

occasionally, i receive voicemails that cut out at an important part in the message. today was one of those days. someone who's name was inaudible left me a message about wanting to come in as a new client. he did indeed leave his number, however, not all of the numbers he said were audible. if anyone happened to call me today and i didn't get back to you, PLEASE call me back or email me at the.milkmaid@gmail.com. i have a blackberry and will get back to you as soon as possible.

thanks,

joy

Breast Reconstruction.

i was recently approached by Dr. Racanelli, a surgeon in nyc. he inquired whether i would be interested in tattooing the areola and nipple areas of his patients that have gone through breast reconstruction after mastectomies. during some surgeries, areolas and nipples are removed. although reconstructions can create a "breast" using the surrounding tissue and implants, they cannot recreate the color of the areola and nipple.

i told dr. raccanelli that i would love to help and he could give out my information to any patient who was interested. i had my first corrective/reconstruction tattoo procedure yesterday. if any one is interested, please don't hesitate to contact me. below are before and after pictures.
